P Bede reported recent incident in difficulty removing an injured employee from unit.

Note:  Item had been elevated to National H&S Policy Committee as advised by S. Sabatini April 2004.

D. Harder to check status

Jan 13

CARRY

0412-01

W Hayman letter re concern about the sanitary conditions on locomotives

Daron reported that Mechanical Services give the units a ‘quick over’ cleaning.  Train crews should be responsible to clean up after themselves.  Daron is checking with Kevin Sholes, Safety Advisor to determine if this is a system wide concern and if it has been elevated to the Policy Committee.  C. Koutroumanos to provide comment

Jan 13

CARRY

0412:02

J. Grant reported R Taxi is driving foul of Signal 1199 (Greely)

P Bede will contact R Taxi.  Bob will followup

CARRy

0412-03

J. Grant reported loaders working at Glacier & Albert Canyon are out there on their own with no check in

D Harder indicated there is a Lone Worker Policy being developed – should be rolled out in 2nd Quarter.  Interim – employees should check into block

Jan 13

CARRy

0412-04

B Gardali reported there is a concern with regard to the weight of packs that RTEs have to carry with all their rule books, etc

D Harder will contact S Sabatini for advisement to elevate to Policy Committee with recommendation to downsize rule books, etc.

Jan 13

CARRY

0412-05

Field Bunkhouse-new entranceway requires a grating on the outside (one on the inside)

N. Higgins reports the grading is on the inside so the snow can be knocked off boots and drop into a recess in the floor where it can melt away.  It is located at the bottom of the stairs so it won’t be tracked up the stairs and into the building.  If there was also a grating on the outside it would just pack with snow and not be of any value.  There is a mat outside the door and can be removed, allowing the concrete pad to be cleared of snow.

Jan 13

DELETE

0412-06

P Bede brought forward a L/E concern regarding SBU failure on descending grade (Mountain)

This issue has been addressed previously with Transport Canada – operating practices are currently in place.  Committee to check with P Bede to advise further.

Jan 13

CARRY

0412-07

P Bede inquired why taxi companies don’t have to comply with ICBC’s recommendation that all taxis be equipped with snow tires (vs mud/snow tires)

Crew Transport Services advises they cannot find any regulations where either the ICBC or the Passenger Transportation Board of BC require taxi companies to use snow tires - snow tires are recommended but not required.  However, G Hudon, Facilities advises that CTS (Crew Transport) has been notified to contact taxi vendors and ensure they utilize snow tires servicing BCISA (Nov 1-April 30).  Bob will follow up with R Taxi
