                  SHR0212-03:  MU cables laying around on the ground at Ducks, Chase and Squilax

Action (0306)    Chase has rack installed.  Would like similar installation of racks at Greeley, Moblerly, Ducks and Squilax.  Also include Stoney Creek and Rogers with start up of tunnel project.                      KJones advised brackets are ready for installation. SHR0305-03:  Unit 9013 – poor seating resulting in sore back.  Should not be used as leaders.

SHR0306-03:  DE9520 – no guard around MU engine emergency shut down switch – easy to trip accidentally

Action (0310)   Bob Reynolds, Manager Locomotive Systems, advises the problem was noted on the CP1 locomotives 9500-9582.  CP is performing a modification to replace the switch with a guarded toggle switch (same as on other newer GE units).  The modification number is 2111 and to date – 19 out of 83 units are now complete.  No update available.                        MOTION TO CARRY

 

 

SHR0309-01:  Field Bunkhouse – no emergency lighting in both locker rooms.

SHR0309-02:  Private crossing Mile 40.1 Shu – timbers rotten

SHR0309-03:  Ducks – tie material in devil strip – trip & fall hazard. Between Mile 110-111 Shu.Sub

Action (0309)    ATMS B. Cowie advises the used scrap ties from this year’s tie program on the Shuswap Sub are being picked up on line and loaded into gondolas.  TP&E has committed to cleaning up all the small tie pieces that have collected here from this work and this should be taken care of in a matter of a few weeks.                                                                                                MOTION TO DELETE

 

SHR0309-04:  Golden Yard east end – large cobbles and junk – tripping hazard

SHR0310-01:  Extremely dark from overpass east, especially in the rain and dark of the moon.  Install light poles

Action (0310)    Installing light poles is not feasible.  Employees must ensure they use their lanterns, situation awareness.                                                                                        MOTION TO DELETE

 

SHR0310-02:  West crossover switch from Track 1 to Lead very hard to throw (Revelstoke Yard)

SHR0310-03:  Bears around back track switch, siding Taft – feeding on old grain dump.

Action (0310)    Usual problem this time of year, especially on the Mountain Sub.  Employees must be on the look out and be aware of wildlife in the area.                                                      MOTION TO DELETE

 

SHR0310-04:  South side Clanwilliam east end – uneven footing, drop offs of ballast.

NEW BUSINESS

 

Item 0310-01: J. Meloro reminded Committee that there are seasonal employees (snowfighters) coming and wondered if yard schematics are up to date, as there are no longer Yardmasters (as per Item 3.3 ES Safety & Health “Provide new/transferred/seasonal employees with an orientation and a copy of the track schematics”)

Item 0310-02: Concern with regard to MYPM’s.  They are difficult to contact and radio procedures need improving. B. Riches agreed this is a concern and a message will be forwarded to Stan Bell.

Action (0310)    Stan informed committee he is aware and continued overall improvements will be forthcoming.

Item 0310-03: P. Bede brought forward several concerns at Kamloops. 

- Several RTE’s have reported finding an alarming number of used syringes in the yard (Kamloops) and in areas adjacent to the bunkhouse. 

- Room #36 evidently the roof is leaking.  Reported repaired this summer but is again leaking

- Fire extinguishers in the bunkhouse – can they be stored in a tamper proof container

- Condition of road at the Mile 7 dump crossing – taxi cabs will not drive down this road because of its condition – requires grading? 

- Apparently a turnstile has been installed at the pulp mill crossing.  Crews carrying backpacks, SBU’s to not fit through – suggested a gate be installed.

Item 0310-04: P. Bede informed committee of concern with regard to scanners on the Shuswap Sub.  The new message indicating the air temperature is excessively loud and overrides the message itself.
